Leawood is one of the fastest growing cities in Kansas with approximately 30,000 residents, a number that's doubled in 25 years.

The city flourishes with some of the nation's hardest working, highly educated, and highest earning individuals.  It's clear that the high income can be correlated to education.  Leawood has one of the strongest educational systems in the nation.  More than 97 percent of residents had received a high school diploma and some college, and 60 percent held a college degree.

Leawood has 4 elementary schools & 2 secondary schools.  These schools are operated by 2 school districts: the Shawnee Mission School District and the Blue Valley School District.  Leawood also houses 3 Catholic elementary schools.

Leawood History

Leawood's history was driven by the dream of a better life.  It was mostly inhabited by the Native Americans who prospered there, the French & American explorers, and settlers such as Daniel Boone.

After the World War II, the returning veterans dreamt of giving their families a good home settled in close-knit neighborhoods near excellent schools.  The Kroh Brothers were the ones to begin the small community of Leawood which has now grown more than they could have expected.

Leawood homes values are the third highest in Johnson County, Kansas.  The average home is appraised at $352,047.

The Hallbrook community leads the list of many upscale neighborhoods in Leawood.  Among many others are Tomahawk Creek Estates, Berkshire Estates, Hazelwood, Quail Crest, Worthington, Steeplechase, The Woods, Whitehorse and the Villages of Iron Horse.  Each individual community and neighborhood is carefully planned with a combination of the built and natural environment.
